Welcome to My Practice

Eric Peters, PhD is a psychodynamically-oriented clinical psychologist. Psychodynamic therapy emphasizes the developmental and interpersonal origins of psychic distress. Due to its predominantly relational focus, the positive impact of this treatment is often felt throughout the most important aspects of daily life, including work, family, romance, parenting, and friendships.

Following my PhD from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, I received four years of advanced postdoctoral training at the Austen Riggs Center in Stockbridge, MA. Working four times a week with clients suffering from severe personality, dissociative, and psychotic disorders gave me a profound respect for the human capacity to both suffer and heal as well as experience extreme vulnerability and resilience. Working with the most severely troubled allows me to work comfortably with a wide range of clients across the diagnostic spectrum.

I provide individual, couples, and family psychotherapy with people struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and painful interpersonal conflict. While first and foremost the aim of any successful therapy is to relieve symptomatic suffering, I have been trained to go a step further. With the aim of preventing future distress, through a respectful and collaborative process, I work to help you discover and resolve the ways in which you may be unwittingly getting yourself stuck and re-stuck in the areas of love, work, and/or social relationships...
